The Advance of Economy of Scale on the East Coast of South America & changes in supply chains.

March 2011. Is the worst crisis of shipping in history over ???

Some believe that the economic downturn  that started in the 3rd quarter of 2008 and made 2009 the worst year in history of shipping, is over and that we are slowly recovering. However recent trouble in North Africa and the serious earthquake in Japan, have brought new doubts. Anyway we can now clearly say that what in 2009 seemed to be the future of maritime transport  for the East Coast of South America, is becoming reality. In a presentation we made for M.B.A. students of the University of Georgia U.S.A. who visited Terminal Zarate on March 18th 2011, you can find an update of what was foreseen in the Terminal Operators conference in Buenos Aires in November 2009, when the crisis still was at its worst point. And the fact that one of the most traditional operators in this trade, Hamburg South America Line, has ordered 9.600 TEU vessels and soon will start its operation in a totally new port in the vicinity of Sao Francisco do Sul, are clear signals that in 2013 there will be big changes in this area.
